Terms & Conditions
Terms for preserving stories with LifeBook.
These Terms govern LifeBook accounts, stories, memorials, QR experiences, AI-assisted tools, purchases and related services. They are written to preserve mandatory consumer and privacy rights wherever LifeBook is lawfully used.
LifeBook is operated from Seychelles and may be used internationally. Mandatory privacy, consumer, child-safety and digital-service protections in your jurisdiction apply where the law says they do, even when these documents refer to Seychelles law.
1. Agreement and scope
These Terms & Conditions govern the use of lifebook.family, LifeBook accounts, stories, memorials, QR experiences, templates, AI-assisted tools, purchases, physical keepsakes and related services. By creating an account, accepting an invitation, purchasing a LifeBook service, activating a QR code or otherwise using LifeBook, you agree to these Terms.
Mandatory consumer, privacy and other rights that cannot lawfully be waived always prevail over a conflicting contractual term.
2. Eligibility and age
You must ordinarily be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract to create and control a LifeBook account. A parent or legal guardian may preserve memories involving a child when legally authorised.
If you create or manage a LifeBook on behalf of another person, you confirm that you have appropriate authority to do so.
3. Your account
You must provide reasonably accurate information and keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for activity through your account unless the activity results from a failure for which LifeBook is legally responsible.
LifeBook may require additional identity or authority verification before sensitive actions such as account recovery, ownership transfer, memorial control or disclosure of personal information.
4. What LifeBook provides
Depending on the plan, region and current product version, LifeBook may provide personal, family or memorial LifeBooks; story pages; media galleries; contributor access; QR-linked experiences; physical QR products; templates and themes; private/shared/public publishing; AI-assisted tools; translation; storage; exports and related services.
Features may vary by plan, country, device, technical availability and service version.
5. Plans and access terms
LifeBook may offer free, trial, monthly, annual, multi-year, ten-year or other fixed access terms. Price, currency, included features, storage, contributor limits, QR entitlement and access duration are shown before purchase.
A displayed monthly or yearly access term does not automatically mean recurring billing. If a plan is auto-renewing, LifeBook will clearly disclose that before purchase.
6. Trials
Where a free trial is offered, eligibility, duration and any conversion to paid service will be disclosed before registration. LifeBook will not rely on hidden automatic conversion terms.
7. Prices, taxes and payment
You agree to pay the amount, currency, taxes and disclosed charges shown at checkout. Payments may be processed by an independent payment provider. Sensitive card credentials are generally collected directly by that provider.
LifeBook may restrict paid features if a payment is reversed, declined or remains overdue after reasonable notice, subject to applicable law.
8. Automatic renewal
If LifeBook introduces or offers an automatically renewing plan, the renewal interval, price or pricing method, renewal date and cancellation method will be clearly disclosed before enrolment. Any renewal reminder or cancellation rights required by local law will apply.
9. Cancellation
For fixed-term access, cancellation generally means choosing not to purchase another term. For an auto-renewing service, where offered, cancellation stops future renewal but does not normally erase the LifeBook immediately.
If continued storage is not available after paid access ends, LifeBook will provide reasonable notice and an opportunity to retrieve content before permanent deletion unless immediate action is legally required.
10. Refunds and consumer remedies
Refund eligibility depends on the product, circumstances and applicable law. Any specific refund guarantee displayed at purchase forms part of your agreement.
Nothing in these Terms removes statutory cooling-off rights, remedies for defective goods or digital services, mandatory warranties, rights concerning unfair contract terms or other consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. See the Refund & Cancellation Policy for operational details.
11. QR codes
A LifeBook QR code provides a route to an online destination. The QR code does not contain the complete LifeBook. A visible QR code can be photographed, copied or redistributed, so possession of the original physical item does not guarantee exclusive access.
Select access settings appropriate to the information linked to the QR code.
12. QR destination availability
A physical QR product depends on the continued availability of the linked digital service. Unless a product expressly promises a defined service period, purchase of a physical QR item is not an unconditional promise that a particular URL, hosting architecture or technology will exist forever.
LifeBook may migrate or replace underlying technology while seeking to preserve compatible access. If a plan promises access for a defined period, LifeBook will use reasonable efforts to provide that access subject to these Terms and mandatory law.
13. Physical products
Descriptions, dimensions, materials, production times, delivery estimates and charges are displayed where applicable. Appearance may vary slightly because of display, print, manufacturing or material differences.
You are responsible for reviewing personalisation details before final approval. LifeBook remains responsible for defects or errors for which the law makes it responsible.
14. Your content belongs to you
As between you and LifeBook, you retain ownership of original stories, photographs, videos, audio, documents and other material you upload when you already own those rights. Storing memories with LifeBook does not transfer their copyright ownership to LifeBook.
15. Licence needed to operate LifeBook
You grant LifeBook a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, process, resize, format, transmit and display your content only as reasonably necessary to operate LifeBook, provide features you request, apply your sharing settings, maintain backups, secure the service and comply with law.
This licence does not permit LifeBook to sell your private memories as stock content or unrelated advertising material. It ends when the relevant content is deleted from LifeBook systems, subject to backup cycles, lawful retention and independent copies made by people with whom you shared the content.
16. Content about other people
You must respect the privacy, copyright, confidentiality, publicity and other rights of people appearing in your LifeBook. By uploading information about another living person, you confirm that you have a lawful basis or appropriate permission to do so.
LifeBook may investigate credible rights complaints and may restrict or remove content where appropriate.
17. Children in stories
If content identifies a person under 18, you must have the parental, guardian or other legal authority required by applicable law. Parents and guardians should carefully consider whether a child's content should be public or QR-accessible.
18. Memorials and deceased people
You must have a reasonable connection to, or appropriate authority concerning, a memorial you create. Do not impersonate a deceased person or misleadingly present yourself as speaking on their behalf.
Managing a memorial does not automatically transfer copyright, estate or inheritance rights. LifeBook may temporarily restrict editing during a genuine dispute and may request evidence from executors, administrators, relatives or rights holders.
19. Legacy and succession
LifeBook may provide tools for designating a legacy steward or transferring control after death or incapacity. Any such authority is limited to the permissions described by the service and remains subject to applicable succession, privacy and estate law.
20. Contributors and family access
An account owner or authorised Story Keeper may invite contributors and manage available permissions. Contributors retain rights they already hold in their original contributions while granting the limited licence necessary for LifeBook to provide the service.
Removing future access does not by itself decide copyright or ownership of material previously contributed.
21. Privacy and sharing settings
Public content may be viewed or copied by people outside your intended family circle and may be indexed by search engines. Unlisted or QR-accessible content is not the same as private encrypted storage because anyone obtaining the link or QR code may be able to open it.
LifeBook will use reasonable measures to enforce available access settings but cannot prevent an authorised viewer from independently recording content they can see.
22. AI-assisted features
LifeBook may provide AI-assisted writing, organisation, translation, transcription, image enhancement or creative tools. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, inappropriate or similar to output generated for another user. You must review output before publishing it.
AI suggestions are not historical evidence or professional legal, medical, financial or other advice. Rights in AI-generated output may vary by jurisdiction and technology. LifeBook does not guarantee that AI-generated material is unique or copyrightable.
Where applicable law requires AI transparency, including the EU AI Act, LifeBook will provide required disclosures or markings for in-scope features.
23. Image restoration and historical accuracy
Restoration, colourisation and generative editing may infer visual details that were not present in the original image. Materially reconstructed images should not automatically be treated as exact historical records.
24. Acceptable use
LifeBook may be used for lawful personal, family, historical, educational, memorial and creative purposes.
- Do not upload unlawful content or malicious software.
- Do not seriously violate another person's privacy or confidentiality.
- Do not knowingly infringe copyright or other intellectual-property rights.
- Do not facilitate fraud, impersonation, stalking or serious harassment.
- Do not publish sexual exploitation of children or content that unlawfully facilitates serious criminal activity.
- Do not make credible threats of violence or use LifeBook to expose another person's private location or security information.
- Do not attempt to bypass authentication, access controls, rate limits or security measures.
25. Historical and documentary context
Historical, journalistic, genealogical, family-history or documentary material is not prohibited merely because it addresses difficult events. LifeBook may consider context, public interest, privacy, safety and applicable law when reviewing content.
26. Reporting rights violations
A person who reasonably believes LifeBook content violates privacy, copyright or another legal right may contact LifeBook or use the Privacy Choices process. We may request information reasonably necessary to verify the claim and may restrict content while investigating a serious complaint.
27. LifeBook intellectual property
The LifeBook name, logos, software, original user interface, templates, designs and other LifeBook materials are owned by or licensed to LifeBook and protected by applicable intellectual-property law. Your account gives you permission to use the service; it does not transfer ownership of LifeBook technology or branding.
28. Templates and licensed assets
Templates may contain layouts, graphics, fonts, illustrations or licensed assets. Your right to use them is limited to the permissions supplied with the LifeBook service. You may not extract and resell protected template assets unless separately licensed to do so.
29. Third-party services
LifeBook may integrate payment, storage, authentication, email, mapping, AI or other external services. External providers may have their own terms. LifeBook remains responsible to the extent required by applicable law for providers acting on its behalf.
30. Service availability
LifeBook aims to provide a reliable service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. Maintenance, security events, network failures, provider outages and circumstances outside reasonable control may cause interruption.
31. Changes to the service
LifeBook may improve, add, replace or discontinue features. We will not intentionally deprive a prepaid customer of the essential benefit of a paid service without an appropriate replacement, notice, credit, refund or other remedy where required by law.
Urgent legal, security or technical changes may be implemented without advance notice when reasonably necessary.
32. Storage and independent backups
LifeBook may maintain operational backups, but you should keep independent copies of irreplaceable original photographs, documents and recordings. Do not treat any online service as the only existing copy of an irreplaceable family record.
33. Export
Where available, LifeBook provides tools or request processes for retrieving content. If a paid service is being permanently discontinued, LifeBook will use reasonable efforts to provide an opportunity to retrieve customer content beforehand unless prevented by law, security requirements or exceptional circumstances.
34. Suspension
LifeBook may temporarily restrict an account where reasonably necessary because of a security threat, suspected unauthorised access, serious or repeated Terms violation, fraud, payment default, legal requirement or immediate threat to safety or rights. Where appropriate, we will provide notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue.
35. Termination by you
You may stop using LifeBook and request account closure. Account closure does not cancel financial obligations already due. Personal information is handled according to the Privacy Policy and legal retention requirements.
36. Termination by LifeBook
LifeBook may terminate an account for a serious or repeated breach. Where the problem can reasonably be corrected, notice will ordinarily be provided before permanent termination. This clause is not intended to permit arbitrary confiscation of prepaid rights or user content contrary to consumer law.
37. Service and user-content disclaimer
LifeBook provides tools for preserving and sharing memories. We do not independently verify every date, family relationship, historical claim, recollection or statement uploaded by users. Opinions and memories published by users remain their responsibility.
LifeBook will provide the service with the standard of care required by applicable law and does not exclude warranties or guarantees that cannot lawfully be excluded.
38. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability where doing so would be unlawful, including mandatory consumer rights or liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude.
To the maximum extent lawfully permitted, LifeBook is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when the agreement was made, or for loss resulting solely from content you intentionally make public, a QR code you intentionally distribute, content independently copied by an authorised viewer, your failure to secure credentials, or unlawful content uploaded by you, except to the extent LifeBook contributed to the loss or law provides otherwise.
39. Responsibility for third-party claims
If your unlawful conduct or material breach causes a third-party claim against LifeBook, you may be responsible for losses reasonably resulting from that conduct to the extent permitted by law. This does not make a consumer responsible for LifeBook's own negligence or obligations that law does not permit LifeBook to transfer.
40. International consumer rights
LifeBook recognises that consumer law varies internationally. Mandatory rights concerning cooling-off periods, defective goods, digital content, services, statutory warranties, unfair terms, automatic renewal, refunds, chargebacks, cancellation and delivery apply where they legally govern the transaction.
A contractual choice of Seychelles law does not deprive a consumer of mandatory protections of the consumer's habitual residence where those protections cannot lawfully be waived.
41. International legal framework
Depending on where LifeBook is offered or used, the service may be subject to Seychelles law together with mandatory rules of other jurisdictions. Relevant frameworks may include EU/EEA privacy, consumer, digital-content and AI rules; UK privacy and consumer law; US federal and state privacy and consumer rules; Canadian federal/provincial law; Brazil LGPD and consumer law; Australian Privacy Act and Australian Consumer Law; New Zealand law; India's DPDP framework and consumer rules; Singapore PDPA; UAE data-protection and consumer law; South African POPIA and consumer law; and equivalent mandatory laws elsewhere.
This list does not claim that every law applies to every LifeBook user. LifeBook applies a law when its territorial, material and threshold requirements are met.
42. Electronic communications and contracting
Where permitted by law, account notices, receipts, security messages and contractual communications may be provided electronically. You are responsible for keeping your registered email address reasonably current.
43. Events outside reasonable control
Neither party is responsible for failure to perform an obligation where performance is prevented by circumstances genuinely outside that party's reasonable control, except for obligations that applicable law says continue regardless. Examples may include major telecommunications failure, natural disaster, war, civil emergency, government restriction or widespread infrastructure outage.
44. Business transfer
LifeBook may transfer its rights and obligations as part of a genuine merger, acquisition, restructuring or sale of the LifeBook business provided the transfer does not unlawfully reduce contractual or privacy rights.
45. Governing law and jurisdiction
Unless mandatory law requires otherwise, these Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Seychelles. Subject to mandatory rights applicable to you, disputes may be brought before the competent courts of Seychelles.
Nothing prevents you from exercising a statutory right before a competent consumer authority, privacy authority or court where applicable law gives you that right.
46. Resolving concerns
We encourage you to contact LifeBook first so a concern can be investigated. This informal process does not remove any right to contact a regulator, use statutory alternative dispute resolution, seek a chargeback where lawfully available or bring a claim before a competent court.
47. Changes to these Terms
LifeBook may update these Terms for legal, technical or service changes. Material changes affecting an existing paid service will receive reasonable notice where appropriate. Changes will not retroactively remove rights already accrued unless law permits it. Where consent is legally required, the change will not take effect without that consent.
48. General provisions
If part of these Terms is invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to the extent permitted by law. Failure to enforce a term immediately does not permanently waive it. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the plan description shown at purchase and any specifically incorporated product terms form the agreement concerning the service.
